Feds revive new ICE jail plan

We’re about a week away from the World Cup final, the Trump administration has pulled an Emily Litella on its planned migrant detention center in Roxbury, and Lindsey Graham and Sam Neill are dead.

ICE: The Roxbury news is interesting because the Trump administration just told a federal judge on June 29 that it no longer planned to move forward with the Morris County facility. Last week, it told the same judge it has reconsidered. The plan was at the center of bipartisan anger, among Democrats who oppose expanding ICE detention and among Republican Roxbury officials who expressed concern about the town’s ability to handle a  470,000-square-foot migrant detention center.

Child tax credit: Gov. Mikie Sherrill announced the launch of SimpleFile, a free website designed to help lower-income New Jersey families quickly apply for the state’s Child Tax Credit. Sherrill’s office said the site will help eligible families claim the refundable credit in 15 minutes. Families with a child age 5 or younger in 2025 can apply in English or Spanish.

Health: Use of long-acting injectable forms of buprenorphine — the gold-standard for opioid treatment — has grown significantly in New Jersey over the past years, mirroring a national trend. But a new Rutgers study says that fewer than 5% of Garden State patients prescribed buprenorphine chose the injectable version of the medication.

RIP: Lindsey Graham, the South Carolina senator who became a staunch Trump supporter after once claiming that his initial nomination for the presidency would destroy the Republican Party, died Saturday night after what his family described as a brief illness. Trump called Graham “one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known.”
